As I contemplate the things in life that really matter, my heart begins to realize that I have been wrong all along. The phrase that the world repeatedly screams, “Do what makes you feel good! You have to make yourself happy!” is false. For countless years, I have also been fooled and misled into buying into this phrase. I have lived as if happiness comes from the easier road of selfishness, and if opportunities did not go as I planned, I would always look to myself.
Unfortunately, selfishness never leads to happiness. It leads to countless days of always desiring more. If that desire is achieved, a new one replaces it. It also leads to poor choices that inflict pain upon yourself and those around you. Yes, selfishness is a rampant plague that is destructive. So much suffering would be absolved if love filled hearts. So many tragedies would be avoided, if only humans could be completely concerned for the welfare of those around them above themselves.
Through my own personal tragedies and suffering, I have come to feel the liberating effects of love. I also realize how extremely challenging it is to root out selfishness. Sometimes it is like discovering the light, only to allow the darkness to creep back in when stressful situations occur. This Christmas season I desire to love more as Christ does, to allow others to ascertain this truth for themselves, and be patient during the process of my own personal change.
As I discover more about myself, I am continually making new discoveries in the kitchen. I have desired to make a “Rice Krispy” treat that is all natural. What a challenge, since “Rice Krispy” treats notoriously contain marshmallows. This version does not. It is lightly sweetened and tastes amazing. I asked my daughter about her experience with this new recipe. She said, “I do not like them. I love them!” Yes, these All Natural Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Chocolate Peanut Butter Cereal Treats are thrilling to the taste buds!
